Abstract:
Crystallization process of cordierite glass-ceramics containing TiO2 as nucleating agent was studied by DTA, XRD, SEM techniques and the mechanical properties were tested as well. The relationships between crystalline types, heat treatment methods and mechanical properties were well discussed. The results show that with the increase of temperature, magnesium aluminotitanate (MAT), Β-quartz solid solution (Β-QSS), sapphirine, spinel, α-cordierite, α-quartz, cristobalite, enstatite are precipitated in glass in sequence. Mechanical properties of this material mainly depend on heat treatment methods. When the glass is heated at 850°C for 2 h and then at 1200°C for 2 h, excellent mechanical properties can be obtained and its flexural strength can reach to over 340 MPa steadily.
